Reading Aerial Photos Like a Detective Reads a Crime Scene

That second person isn't gifted, they're trained in photo interpretation, a skill that turns pixels into evidence.
Photo interpretation is the qualitative half of aerial surveying, less about precise measurement and more about identification and reasoning, the same instinct a detective uses to read a scene, except the scene here is captured from thousands of feet in the air.
