Hand an untrained eye a satellite image and they see shapes and colours. Hand it to a trained interpreter, and they see a stadium, a residential block, and a commercial zone within seconds. The difference is not better eyesight. It is knowing exactly which visual clues to hunt for, the same seven clues photo-interpreters have relied on for decades.

TONE The relative brightness or colour of an object. It is the most fundamental clue, and every other clue depends on tone variation being visible in the first place.

Why one clue is never enough

No single clue solves the case alone. A perfectly circular shape could be a stadium, a water tank, or a roundabout. It takes size, texture, and context together to narrow it down.
